The Lutheran Rangers

History of the Lutheran Rangers

For many years the problem of a suitable Lutheran boys organization was a stumbling block in our Church. Although much serious effort and prayerful thought was given to this problem, for the greater part, these honest efforts, enthusiastic beginnings, and often elaborate projects met with disappointment and failure. Because of this, many congregations have put time and effort into trying to find a formula that would work.

The Lutheran Rangers was started in March of 1963 by St. Paul's Lutheran Church of West Allis, Wisconsin, by a group of men very much interested in the future of our youth. These men realized that after St. Paul's youth group had been formed, there was still a need for all Lutheran churches to be closely knit together and that there was no better way to do this than through a National Youth Group. A National Council was set up to provide for other churches to use this youth program.

The Lutheran Rangers program is built on six points:

  1. It teaches true Lutheran Ranger theology
  2. It develops leadership.
  3. It gives the boys the great outdoors.
  4. It builds citizenship.
  5. It teaches safety.
  6. It gives the boys a sense of team work.
